Introducing... Bob Baxter, DTM
Lt. Governor Education and Training 2007-2008
I joined Toastmasters when the Rocky Mountain News formed a company club, News@Noon. I became an official Toastmaster and charter member of the club when News@Noon chartered in March 2000. Since then, the club has renamed itself "Toast of the Town" and changed to a community club, meaning we are now open to the public. I am also a charter member of Evening Stars, a club for people that have earned their Competent Toastmaster or Competent Communicator award.
For several years I was an active member of my home club, but did not participate in activities outside the club. Then I competed in a humorous speech contest. Through an interesting chain of events, I took my speech all the way to the District level. As I was competing, I discovered life outside the club. That's when I started to become active in District events. One thing led to another and "here I am".
Outside of Toastmasters, I am married with three children. One is grown, one is almost grown and one thinks she is grown but isn't just quite yet. I am a lifetime computer geek. I started learning about computers when I snuck into the computer lab in high school. These days high school is very late to start learning about computers, but for someone my age, it was a very early start. Toastmasters is best known as a public speaking organization, but it is so much more! It's also a leadership organization. When I joined Toastmasters, I never imagined that I would be a Lieutenant Governor Education and Training. But I am, and so can you!
