Introducing...
J. Randy Penn, DTM
District 26 Immediate Past District Governor 2007-2008
I joined Toastmasters in Spring 1987 in Colorado Springs. I had heard of Toastmasters but knew nothing about the organization. I found Toastmasters by accident. Since then, I absorbed all the experiences and education I could to improve my skill set. Now I have the opportunity to share this growth with others. It is important that I share these skills both inside and outside our organization.
My twenty year financial services career has given me the opportunity to acquire skills in a number of different environments and cultures. I have experience in banking, securities, mortgage and tax from Operations, Planning and Technology departments.
I am devoted to the prospect and promise of Toastmasters. The personal growth opportunities we share with others are priceless but we provide them at very low cost. Most club dues are less than $50 per year. This is less expensive than any gym, self-improvement program or professional association. The skills we learn are as valuable as any exercise, educational or professional program.
I take it as a goal, calling or mission in Toastmasters to share what I have learned with as many people as possible. I like to describe Toastmasters as an "international educational organization, designed to teach public speaking, listening and leadership skills". We have some of the finest educational programs available to the public regardless of cost.
Toastmasters programs are exceptionally democratic. We don't have teachers, professors or degrees. In our self-guided, self-paced Toastmasters programs, every member becomes an expert. The best way to learn is to teach. We learn and teach by participating, by doing. There is no program on earth that teaches so many, so much, so effectively!
I look forward to my year as District Governor serving the Toastmasters of District 26.
