How Your Club can Become Distinguished and Why it's Important At the same time you strive to meet your personal goals in your club, you are also succeeding in the vision of Toastmasters International. Simply put, this vision is that you become "empowered" by the Toastmasters program so that you can reach your full potential and realize your dreams. To achieve success in anything in life, you must have goals. Therefore, Toastmasters International has assembled a list of goals for your club to strive for. This program is called the Distinguished Club Program/Club Success Plan. (Your club should have received a copy of the program requirements.) As your club members work together as a team to achieve those goals, your club eventually reaches the various levels of Distinguished achievement. As the Club, Area, and Division reach their goals, the District becomes Distinguished as well. Many members misunderstand the true meaning behind the Distringuished Club Plan (otherwise known as the DCP). One primary reason the DCP is so important is because it increases your probability for having a successful club. Think about your own club for a moment. What traits can you think of that make it successful today? Or, if your club is struggling, what needs to happen so that your club becomes successful? The answer is simple. Your club must continue to grow and your members must continually improve on their communication skills. To provide such an environment where these two things occur, many things need to happen. In fact, those very topics are covered within this web site such as Having Better Meetings, Giving Better Evaluations, How to Increase Membership and Retain Members, just to name a few. This section, however, focuses specifically on how your club can attain the various Distinguished Club levels of achievement. Here's how it works. First, there is a membership requirement where your club must either have a minimum of 20 members or a net gain of 5 members for the year, at year end, June 30. Secondly, Toastmasters International has set forth the following goals for every club to strive for: 2 CTM's 2 more CTM's 1 ATM 1 more ATM 1 CL, AL, or DTM 1 more CL, AL, or DTM 4 new members 4 more new members 4 (or more) officers trained 2 times a year 1 Dues payment and 1 Club officer list on time To achieve Distinguished Club status, 5 goals must be attained To achieve Select Distinguished status, 7 goals must be attained. To achieve President's Distinguished status, 9 or 10 of the goals must be attained. You can monitor your club's progress on the Toastmasters International site. Just visit this link and type in your club number. There you will see how many goals have been recorded officially for your club. |
