Strive for 5

Striving for 5 humorous speech contestants and 5 evaluation contestants in a club with only 10 members is not only possible, but it will be worth the effort too. Consider these facts:
  • There are no prerequisites for the Fall contest. A member only needs to be in good standing as far as dues to participate. Even if someone just joined yesterday, they're fair game to compete today. Of course, you need to use good judgement so that you don't pressure recent members too much. Maybe their best involvement at this point should be to serve as timer or vote counter...or as a judge.
  • A member can be in BOTH contests until the Division level.
  • A contestant in one event can serve as a judge, timer, counter, TM or CE for the other event.
  • In my club, we almost always have a full slate of contestants. Those who advance nearly always win the Area and advance to the Division. Club contest with 5 in each category dramatically increase the challenge and competition factor.
