Meeting Times
Guests are always welcome!Come try us out and see how much fun Toastmasters can be. See our Frequently Asked Questions page to see what's involved with visiting a meeting as a guest. How Does It Work?Toastmaster clubs are a "learn-by-doing" workshop in which men and women hone their skills in an atmosphere of fellowship and enjoyment. We provide a safe and supportive environment as we all learn and grow together. Toastmasters clubs can be found in the United States Senate and House Of Representatives, as well as in a variety of community organizations, prisons, universities, hospitals, military bases, and churches. Upon joining, members progress through a series of ten speaking assignments, which are designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking. There is no instructor. Instead, members evaluate one another's oral presentations. This evaluation process is an integral component of the overall education program. Besides taking turns delivering prepared speeches and evaluating those of other members, Toastmaster members give impromptu talks on assigned topics, usually related to current events. They also develop their listening skills, conduct meetings, and gain leadership skills by serving as club officers. Most important, we have fun! When finished with the basic speech manual, members can select from among twelve advanced programs that are geared to their specific needs. They are: Specialty Speeches, The Entertaining Speaker, Speaking To Inform, The Discussion Leader, Speeches By Management, The Professional Speaker, The Professional Salesperson, Technical Presentations, Communicating On Television, Story Telling , and Interpretive Reading. Members also have the opportunity to develop and practice leadership skills by working in the High Performance Leadership Program. The effectiveness of this simple learning formula is evidenced by the fact that thousands of corporations, including Hewlett-Packard, who sponsor their own in-house Toastmasters clubs. These clubs serve as communications training workshops for employees. To see what Toastmasters has done for people in this club, see the testimonial page. |
